WIAW: Something Old, New, Ordered & Blue

Yes, I'm already married. So, no, those words (or the traditional version of them) don't really apply to me anymore. But, they did accurately sum up my day and meals.

This month What I Ate Wednesday, hosted by Peas and Crayons, goes green! You'll see some green in my meals today, but not as much as I would have liked. I did drink a fair amount of airborne, though that was hot pink...eh, you win some, you lose some.

Something New (Breakfast): I decided to try something I've seen on healthy eating/living blogs for quite some time now - overnight oats! I always enjoyed oatmeal growing up, and thought, hey I can give this a shot. Turns out? I'm not the biggest fan. I think I enjoy warm oatmeal too much to like it cold and mushy. Kinda reminded me of soggy cereal...Anyone else feel that way??
Overnight oats included 2/3 cup oats, 3/4 cup skim milk, 1 6 oz 0% strawberry Chobani, 2 tbsp chia seeds
I enjoyed the banana! ...but couldn't even finish the batch.
Something Old (Lunch): This lunch is nothing new to me or my stomach! It pretty much includes some staples in my daily diet, especially lunch. The magic combination? Protein, vegetable, fruit and whole grain. This killer combo energizes me and keeps me full throughout the rest of the afternoon.

Two hard-boiled eggs with salt and pepper, broccoli,
a mini whole wheat bagel with peanut butter & a cara cara orange
Something Blue (me and my cold): Ugh. Remember how I told you I slept so much this weekend because I wasn't feeling too hot? Welp, I think my cold peaked yesterday/today, as I've gone through a whole box of tissues and have been coughing, rubbing my eyes (bad, I know), and feeling like sleeping for days.

The blue part was especially true when I had to miss a dinner with some of my favorite girls. We take turns hosting each month, and I wanted to see Jourdan and her itty bitty belly (she's pregnant!!), but didn't want to get her (or baby!) sick. I initiated a nice little pity part (a handful of whole grain pita chips with some pesto cheese), which quickly turned into a nap on the couch with the pup.

Something Ordered (Dinner): Since I was planning to go to Jourdan's for dinner - and I have the whole tray of lightened-up deviled eggs to prove it (recipe coming soon!) - I had no intention of cooking. The hubby was sweet and ordered some Chinese food for us to nosh on so I didn't have to come up with something. (I do, however, have dinner planned for the rest of the week so keep an eye out for some new recipes!)

I filled my portion plate with steamed shrimp and broccoli, chicken fried rice
and a shrimp roll, which I split with John
On a side note, and total tangent, when did fortune cookies stop having fortunes in them? I never put much any merit in them, but I did enjoy the amusement that came from the predictions. Now, it's just instructions! Who needs that?

Oh wait...I like this one. Disregard above comment.

    1. Sometimes it is just what you need. :) I never order it, but for some reason it sounded good, and it totally hit the spot!
